Australia, Kyoto and Global Warming

Resource Details: Produced by Video Education Australasia with the co-operation of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation,
Australia, 1998, 31 minutes.

The evidence for global warming is now very strong. Despite this, and despite the good common sense in taking note of the Precautionary Principle and acting before the crisis might come upon us, Australia went to Kyoto in the late 1997 determined to avoid any pain at all. Because we are a small contributor to total global CO² emissions, we got away with it and our leaders were jubilant. But, given that we lead the world in per capita emissions, should we be taking the problem very seriously? Do we have a moral obligation to join with other countries to find ways to avoid a crisis? This program raises important issues about global warming and points to grounds for optimism.
