Australia Has No Winter: A Refugee Family Story

Resource Details: Produced by Habibi Films,
Australia, 1999, 55 minutes.

"The video explores the experiences and responses of a refugee family coming to Australia to escape conflict, suffering and dislocation in the former Republic of Yugoslavia. Stevan is a Serb while his wife, Georga, is a Croatian. Becoming outsiders in their violently fragmenting homeland, they look forward to making a new life in Australia. Their initial enthusiasm is not sufficient to deal with the uncertainties, challenges and tensions generated in the transition. The family must not only come to terms with a new country, culture and language, they must also deal with the stress produced by separation from their friends and wider family as well as changing status and relationships within the family itself."
