"Behind the Smile documents the experiences of three Thai women. Amoan works in a textile factory while Laicid and Kham work in the building industry. The video presents the hardships and exploitation endured by these women as well as commenting on the social injustice suffered by the poor in developing economies such as Thailand. The program shows how the lack of an organised labour force combined with the Buddhist beliefs of the Thai people contribute to the exploitation of these workers as cheap labour."
