Business as usual: Is the rich world really exploiting those it is trying to help?

Resource Details: The Food Machine Series (Part 12), Video Education Australasia,
Canada, 1998, 26 minutes.

Is the developed world exploiting those they are pretending to help? Global competition means that small farmers with an acre of land are forced to compete with farmers with giant tractors handling three thousand acres. Business as Usual focuses on the impact large industrial countries are having on small farmers by directing which crops are to be grown, enforcing international treaties such as NAFTA and over-production resulting in subsidies and dumping. The first half of the program depicts the Mexican Chiapas Indians' struggle, the second half focuses on farmers in Burkina Faso in Africa.

Includes program support notes.
