After two decades of war, Cambodia had to start from scratch in building up the education sector again. There is a shortage in teachers, as many of them had been killed under the Khmer Rouge regime, the classrooms are inadequate and the curriculum outdated. With help from the international community, Cambodia is rebuilding its primary school sector in an effort to increase literacy and reduce drop-out rates.
