 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Global Learning Centre is contracted by AusAID through the Global Education Project to provide professional development services to teachers and pre-service teachers in Queensland. The Global Education Program aims to raise awareness and understanding among Australian school students of international issues, development and poverty, and to prepare them to live in an increasingly globalised world and to be active citizens shaping better futures.

School Professional Development:
The GLC offers one free Professional Development (PD) opportunity to each school when they first become members of the GLC. PD opportunities can be tailored to the school needs. Some suggested ideas are:

  • Workshops on Global Education topics for groups of teachers or the whole staff at your school. These need to be at least 1 hour to be effective.
  • Orientation visits to the GLC Library by small groups of teachers.
  • Displays of GLC Library resources set up in the staff room, the library or presented at a staff meeting.
  • Inviting the GLC to participate in special school events such as celebrations of International days.
  • Working with the Education Officer to develop curriculum activities or resources to support the Queensland KLAs.

University Professional Development:

The Education Officer can also be booked for PD opportunities to fit into Pre-service teacher education programs. Some suggested ideas are:

  • Lectures or workshops linking the Global Perspectives Framework with Queensland Syllabuses, pedagogy and resources.
  • Specific lectures or workshops on Global Education topics.
  • Orientation visits to the GLC Library by small groups of pre-service teachers.
  • Working with the Education Officer to develop units, courses, resources or assessment programs.

Please contact the Education Officer for bookings and more information about professional development.
