EnviroLink This non-profit organisation is a grassroots online community uniting hundreds of organisations and volunteers around the world with millions of people in more than 150 countries. EnviroLink is dedicated to providing comprehensive, up-to-date environmental information and news.
IUCN: The World Conservation Union The World Conservation Union’s mission is to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. The Union is a multicultural, multilingual organisation with 1000 staff located in 62 countries.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific Greenpeace is an independent organisation campaigning to ensure a just, peaceful, sustainable environment for future generations. Griffith University EcoCentre The aim of this EcoCentre is to promote sustainable ways of living and working across local and national communities, through the development and delivery of collaborative environmental education programs. These programs are for students and teachers as well as the general community.
New Internationalist Magazine - Environment New Internationalist reports on the issues of world poverty and inequality to: focus attention on the relationship between the powerful and powerless; debate and campaign for the changes necessary to meet the basic needs of all; and bring to life the people, the ideas and the action in the fight for global justice. The NI website's "Mega Index" contains a wide variety of articles on environmental issues around the world.
Northey Street City Farm Northey Street City Farm is a non-profit community organisation situated in Windsor. More than 1500 exotic and native fruit trees, bushtucker plants, shrubs and ground covers have been planted on the four hectare farm site. The farm has been developed for people to enjoy and participate in using the principles of permaculture. School and community group tours can be arranged to gain hands-on experience in a natural environment. Participants can touch worms, taste bushtucker and see a real farm in action while learning about sustainable living.
OECD: Consumption and Environment The OECD groups 30 member countries, with active relationships with 70 other countries, NGOs and civil society, covering economic and social issues. The OECD Work Programme on Sustainable Consumption provides data and analysis to help countries reduce the environmental impacts from household consumption patterns.
Planet Ark Planet Ark runs a number of environmental campaigns and initiatives on issues including recycling, tree planting, and plastic bags. The site also contains an issues-based news archive.
Queensland Conservation Council The QCC is the peak environment organisation in Queensland, representing all the major regional and community environmental and conservation organisations. The site includes fact sheets on animals, genetically modified food, and water conservation.
Smogbusters Way to School Project This project is designed to encourage students, parents, and the broader school community to consider the implications of motor vehicle travel, particularly to and from school. The site contains manuals for both teachers and parents, and students.
Urban Tripper This project aims to educate young people about traffic congestion and pollution caused by motor vehicles, and to provide transport alternatives.
The Wilderness Society The Wilderness Society is a community-based environmental advocacy organisation whose mission is to protect, promote and restore wilderness and natural processes across Australia. The Society's activities include awarding the annual Environment Award for Children's Literature.
World Resources Institute The WRI is an environmental think tank finding practical ways to protect the earth and improve people's lives. The mission of the Institute is to move society to live in ways that protect Earth's environment and its capacity to provide for the needs of current and future generations. The site features a newsroom and a list of publications.
Worldwatch Institute This is an independent research organisation that provides compelling, accessible, and fact-based analysis of critical global issues. Worldwatch informs about the complex interactions between people, nature, and economies, focusing on the underlying causes of and practical solutions to the world's problems to inspire people to demand new policies, investment patterns and lifestyle choices.
World Wildlife Fund The WWF runs programs on six urgent global issues: climate change, forests, freshwater, marine life, endangered species, and toxic waste.

Global Education The Global Education Website is initiated and funded by AusAID to support its Global Education Program. The objective of the Global Education Website is to increase the amount and quality of teaching of global education in Australian primary and secondary schools. The site supports the AusAID Global Education Program which aims to raise awareness and understanding among Australian school students of international issues, development and poverty, and to prepare them to live in an increasingly globalised world and to be active citizens shaping better futures.
Asia Education Foundation The Asia Education Foundation (AEF) is a joint activity of Asialink at the University of Melbourne and Curriculum Corporation. The AEF provides schools and teachers with a range of services to engage young Australians with Asia through studies of Asia. Oxfam Australia: Teaching Materials The teaching materials offered on this website are adaptable for students of a variety of ages, from upper-primary to year 12. United Nations CyberSchoolBus The Cyberschoolbus was created in 1996 as the online education component of the Global Teaching and Learning Project, whose mission it is to promote education about international issues and the UN. The Project produces teaching materials and activities designed for use at primary and secondary school levels, and for training teachers. Amnesty International Australia An independent, politically impartial worldwide movement, Amnesty International works to both promote and to defend human rights around the world. Business and Human Rights Resource Centre This Centre is an independent, international, non-profit organisation in a collaborative partnership with Amnesty International and leading academic institutions. Electronic Development and Environment Information System (ELDIS) Globalisation Guide ELDIS is a gateway to information on development issues, providing free and easy access to wide range of online resources. Friends of the Earth International FOEI is a federation of autonomous environmental organisations from all over the world. This organisation, which has members in 68 countries, campaigns on the most urgent environmental and social issues, while simultaneously catalysing a shift toward sustainable societies.

Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property Rights The "Our Culture: Our Future" report is the first of its kind to comprehensively map the rights Indigenous Australians want to their cultural heritage and to comprehensively analyse the laws and policies that affect the ability of Indigenous Australians to realise these rights. The Report also lists a range of measures for protecting Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property.
International Forum on Globalisation The International Forum on Globalisation (IFG) is an alliance of sixty leading activists, scholars, economists, researchers and writers formed to stimulate new thinking, joint activity, and public education in response to economic globalisation.The IFG convened in 1994 in the wake of the North American Free Trade Agreement's (NAFTA's) passage and the conclusion of the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT).

No Logo This website was launched in 2001, following author and activist Naomi Klein's first book, No Logo: Taking Aim at the Brand Bullies (1999). Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) The OECD plays a prominent role in fostering good governance in the public service and in corporate activity. It helps governments to ensure the responsiveness of key economic areas with sectoral monitoring.
The Polaris Institute The Polaris Institute is designed to enable citizen movements to re-skill and re-tool themselves to fight for democratic social change in an age of corporate driven globalisation. The Institute works with citizen movements in developing strategies and tactics required to unmask and challenge the corporate power that is the driving force behind governments, concerning public policy making on economic, social and environmental issues.
Trade Observatory Trade Observatory is the new home of WTO Watch. In 1999, the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) opened WTO Watch in preparation for the WTO's Seattle Ministerial. As trade, globalisation and sustainable development issues have evolved since the Seattle Ministerial, so has Trade Observatory. In response to the growing interest in global trade policy, IATP has expanded its focus and merged WTO Watch with the Trade Observatory.
World Bank The World Bank is not a 'bank' in the common sense. It is one of the United Nations’ specialised agencies, and is made up of 184 member countries. These countries are jointly responsible for how the institution is financed and how its money is spent. Along with the rest of the development community, the World Bank centres its efforts on reaching the Millennium Development Goals, agreed to by UN members in 2000 and aimed at sustainable poverty reduction.
World Economic Forum This Forum provides a collaborative framework for the world's leaders to address global issues, engaging particularly its corporate members in global citizenship.
World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) An international organisation dedicated to promoting the use and protection of works of the human spirit. These works – intellectual property – are expanding the bounds of science and technology and enriching the world of the arts.
World Trade Organisation (WTO) The WTO is the international organisation charged with enforcing a set of trade rules including the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), Trade Related Intellectual Property Measures (TRIPS), General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), among others. WTO was established in 1995 in the ”Uruguay Round” of GATT negotiations.

ANTaR (Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation) Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation is an independent, national network of mainly non-Indigenous organisations and individuals working in support of justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. ANTaR coordinates a major community education and awareness campaign on native title and reconciliation.

‘Bringing Them Home’ report The Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families investigated the forcible removal of Australian Indigenous children from their families and communities.
Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research CAEPR is an independent Centre within the Australian National University (ANU). The Centre's research focuses on both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians regarding Indigenous economic and social circumstances; development options for sustainable Indigenous futures; and education, governance and capacity development.

FAIRA: Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action FAIRA is an indigenous community organisation owned and managed by Indigenous people. Banking with the Poor (BWTP) Banking With The Poor is a network of some 20 national policy institutions, commercial banks and NGOs from eight countries in Asia - Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Its objective is to link microfinance with the financial system. BWTP pursues this objective through research, advocacy, policy dialogue, information sharing and capacity building.
The Virtual Library on Microcredit This site is a library, journal and think tank rolled into one. It contains practical ideas, guides, strategies, courses and methodologies; success stories, in the form of case studies, comparisons, inspiring ideas, and best practices; articles and resources, in the form of organisational and operational information on current policies, programmes, projects and other initiatives.
Grameen Bank The Grameen Bank Project was born in the village of Jobra, Bangladesh, in 1976. In 1983 it was transformed into a formal bank under a special law passed for its creation. It is owned by the 4.7 million borrowers of the bank - 96 per cent of whom are women. At present these borrowers own 94 per cent of the total equity of the bank, and the remaining 6 percent is owned by the government.
Microcredit: A Bridge for the Poor This case study from AusAID (Australian Agency for International Development) demonstrates how an AusAID microcredit project has benefitted a Vietnamese family.
The Microfinance Gateway - Library Search The advanced search facility on this site contains resources on a range of world regions and issues related to microcredit, including credit unions, gender and empowerment, governance, natural disasters, poverty and technology.
MicroSave - Africa  
United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) The UNCDF works to help eradicate poverty through local development programmes and microfinance operations. Its approach is to invest with the poor, building the capacity and self-reliance of communities by increasing their access to local infrastructure and services. The Fund also works to strengthen these communities' influence over economic and social investments that directly affect their lives and livelihoods.
Women's World Banking The WWB network reaches poor women by providing and organizing support to its member organisations, which in turn offer direct services to these women. In practical terms this means creating the possibility for a low income woman to build her business and assets, improve her living conditions, keep her family well-fed and healthy, educate her children, develop respect at home and in her community, and secure a political voice.
World Bank Rural Microfinance and Small Enterprise Development The World Bank group's strategy is to increase access to financial services and low-income households by addressing three principal areas: (1) Fundamental frameworks: policy, legal and regulatory; (2) Institution building: best practices that banks and microfinance organisations need to expand and develop sustainable operations, with support for capacity building; and (3) Innovative approaches: leasing, lending and other products to increase access to financial services.

Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) Racial Discrimination The Racial Discrimination Commissioner has a broad role to play in promoting equality in the political, economic, social and cultural fields for everyone regardless of race, colour, descent, national origin or ethnic origin. The Commissioner's responsibilities include promoting research and educational programs that combat racism.
Australians Against Racism (AAR) Australians Against Racism was established by designer Mariana Hardwick and novelist Eva Sallis in October 2001. AAR aims to counter destructive stereotyping of race and culture by actively promoting understanding and debate through the media, arts, education and the law.
Harmony Day Harmony Day provides an opportunity for us to celebrate our successes as a culturally diverse society, re-commit ourselves to harmony and say “no” to racism. Since its inception in 1999 Harmony Day has grown into Australia 's biggest annual multicultural event. Harmony Day is held on March 21, which is also the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Making Multicultural Australia This website aims to assist young people of upper primary and high school age, their parents, the teachers and the wider community explore our cultural diversity. It provides information on the contributions that different cultural groups have made to the development of Australian society and on the various views towards immigration and multiculturalism that have historically influenced government policies and programs and transformed the Australian population.
Multicultural Pavilion The creator of the Multicultural Pavilion provides resources for educators, students, and activists to explore and discuss multicultural education; facilitate opportunities for educators to work toward self-awareness and development; and provide forums for educators to interact and collaborate toward a critical, transformative approach to multicultural education.
Queensland Multicultural Festival The Queensland Multicultural Festival is a major public celebration of Queensland's cultural diversity. The inaugural 2004 Queensland Multicultural Festival attracted approximately 30,000 visitors. The program included up to 400 performers from 30 countries and delicacies from 25 international food stalls.
Racism. No Way! This project aims to assist school communities and education systemes to recognise and address racism in the learning environment. This project is managed and educational content has been developed by Government State and Territory education systems, the National Catholic Education Commission, the National Council of Independent Schools' Associations and the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs.

A Just Australia A Just Australia is co-ordinated by national campaign umbrella group, Australians for Just Refugee Programs Inc. Launched in July 2002, A Just Australia brings together over 11,500 individual supporters, 120 non-government organisations and over 70 prominent Australian Patrons. The core mission of A Just Australia is to campaign for changes to government policy on refugees and asylum seekers.
Brisbane Actionweb for Refugee Collaboration (BARC!) The BARC! website contains all kinds of useful information for those in the Brisbane region who care about asylum seekers and refugees. It assists all organisations in the region that support asylum seekers and refugees in some way. The website includes details of coming events, volunteer opportunities, local news, requests for assistance, an organisation listing and much more.
ChilOut Children Out Of Detention (ChilOut) is a group of parents and citizens opposed to the mandatory detention of children in Australian immigration detention centres. They argue that Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers breaches several human rights treaties to which we are a signatory, in particular the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Edmund Rice Centre: Debunking the Myths about Asylum Seekers The Edmund Rice Centre is involved in a range of projects and activities across the four areas of its operation in research, community education, advocacy and networking. This publication looks at common myths and misconceptions surrounding asylum seekers.

Refugee Action Collective (Qld) The Refugee Action Collective in Brisbane is a broad group of concerned people from all walks of life dedicated to fighting for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, and for the reform of Australia’s immigration policies.
Refugee Claimants Support Centre (RCSC) The RCSC's work is grounded in the principles of social justice, multicuturalism and community development. As much as possible refugee claimants (asylum seekers) drive and participate in the work of the Centre. Services provided include a drop in centre, English language classes, emotional support, information and referral, emergency relief, computer skills, and assistance with accommodation, food, employment and health.
Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) The Refugee Council of Australia is a peak organisation with over 90 organisational members. It is a non-profit organisation funded through contributions from its members and by project grants from government agencies, in particular the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA).
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) The Office of the UNHCR was established in 1950 by the UN General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. In more than 50 years, the agency has helped an estimated 50 million people restart their lives.

Sustainable Development

Alternative Technology Association - Australia The ATA is an environmental organisation promoting sustainable technology and representing community issues. ATA advocates in government and industry forums for policies which provide equitable access to energy resources and reduce greenhouse gas pollution. ATA also offers advice on conserving energy, building with natural materials, reducing the use of and recycling natural resources and working with appropriate technology to create a sustainable future.
Encyclopaedia for Sustainable Development (UK) The Encyclopedia is a one-stop source of information on the concepts and key issues concerning sustainable development. Nine core topic areas have been included in the Encyclopedia which are central to understanding sustainable development. These include: the earth; principles of sustainable development; the environment; natural resources; society; the economy; indicators of sustainable development; action for sustainable development; and doing our bit for sustainable development.

English Teachers' Association of Queensland (ETAQ) ETAQ seeks to promote the study and teaching of English and to provide professional support for those working in the area of English education. The Association's objectives are to: enhance the professional status of English teachers; promote activities associated with English teaching; promote and exchane ideas of professional interest to members by meetings, seminars, conferences, discussions and publications; and cooperating and affiliating with other professional bodies holding similar aims and objectives.
Geography Teachers' Association of Queensland (GTAQ) GTAQ is the major body representing Geography teachers in Queensland. This website provides information on the Association and its activities as well as resources for Geography Teachers.
Queensland History Teachers' Association (QHTA) QHTA is a voluntary organisation with an executive membership of Primary and Secondary History Teachers, Academics and Educationalists. UNIFEM (United Nations Development Fund For Women) UNIFEM is the women's fund at the United Nations. It provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies to foster women's empowerment and gender equality. Placing the advancement of women's human rights at the centre of all of its efforts, UNIFEM focuses its activities on four strategic areas: reducing feminised poverty, ending violence against women, reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS among women and girls, and achieving gender equality in democratic governance in times of peace as well as war.

WomenWatch (UN) WomenWatch is a central gateway to information and resources on the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women throughout the United Nations (UN)system, including the UN Secretariat, regional commissions, funds, programmes, specialised agencies and academic and research institutions. It is a joint UN project created in 1997 to provide Internet space for global gender equality issues and to support implementation of the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action.

Work

Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) The ACTU represents around 1.8 million workers, and is the only peak council and national centre representing the Australian workforce.
International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) The ICFTU, set up in 1949, and has affiliates on all five continents, with a membership of 145 million, 40% of who are women. It has three major regional organisations - APRO (Asia and the Pacific), AFRO (Africa), and ORIT (the Americas). The ICFTU organises and directs campaigns on issues such as: the defence of trade union and workers' rights; the eradication of forced and child labour; the promotion of equal rights for working women; the environment; and investigates the trade union situation in many countries.
International Labour Organisation (ILO) The ILO, founded in 1919,  is the United Nations (UN) specialised agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognised human and labour rights. It became the first specialised agency of the UN in 1946. The ILO formulates international labour standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations setting minimum standards of basic labour rights.
LaborNet LaborNet was founded in 1991 to build a democratic communication network for the labor movement. LaborNet's founders believe that the new communication technology must be put to use to revitalize and rebuild the labor movement.
